Ring in 2025 with the Science Center of Iowa’s Noon Year’s Eve Celebration and New Regular Hours

The Science Center of Iowa (SCI) invites families to ring in the new year with its popular Noon Year’s Eve celebration and enjoy exciting updates to its regular hours starting January 1, 2025. While visiting, don’t miss the chance to explore SCI’s current traveling exhibit, Pterosaurs: Flight in the Age of Dinosaurs, which brings the prehistoric world to life!
Noon Year’s Eve at SCI
Say goodbye to 2024 and welcome 2025 at SCI’s Noon Year’s Eve event on Tuesday, December 31, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. This family-friendly tradition is packed with fun activities and culminates in the infamous balloon drop at the stroke of Noon!
Event highlights include:
- Face Painting: Get creative with colorful designs to kick start the new year.
- Party Hat Making: Craft your own festive party hat to wear during the countdown.
- Photo Booth Fun: Snap memorable photos to capture the day.

Explore Pterosaurs: Flight in the Age of Dinosaurs
While visiting SCI, take a journey back in time with the traveling exhibit Pterosaurs: Flight in the Age of Dinosaurs. Discover how these incredible creatures, neither birds nor bats, became the first vertebrates to evolve powered flight. Featuring life-sized models, interactive displays, and fossil casts, this exhibit is a must-see for visitors of all ages.
New Regular Hours Begin January 1
SCI is also excited to announce a change to its weekly schedule for 2025. Starting January 1, SCI will be open Wednesday through Sunday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., providing visitors with even more opportunities to explore the wonders of science.
"Our new regular hours reflect our commitment to accessibility and ensuring families can easily plan their visits," added Simmons.
SCI features a variety of interactive exhibits, hands-on activities, and programming designed to spark curiosity and inspire a love of science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM).
