Homeschool Science Series
With hands-on workshops for students and parents, the Homeschool Science Series is a unique opportunity for homeschoolers to enhance their curriculum through STEM programming led by SCI staff. Workshops also provide an opportunity for homeschoolers to share ideas and expand their network of like-minded learners.
Fall 2021 Theme — James Webb Space Telescope: What, When, Why and How
A new era of space telescopes will begin later this year with the launch of the James Webb Space Telescope. This amazing piece of collaborative technology will allow us to explore every phase of cosmic history – from within our solar system to the most observable galaxies in the universe and everything in between. The Science Center of Iowa’s Homeschool Science Series Fall Session will investigate the launch, the technology and the science surrounding this international project.

Learn about how the James Webb Space Telescope will build on and expand on what has been learned by land-based telescopes and Hubble Space Telescope. Register
Thursday, November 11, 11:00 am-12:00 pm - How will the James Webb Space Telescope use its instruments to better understand our universe?
Research the objects in our universe what will be seen with infrared sensors and cameras. Register
Class Logistics & Safety Precautions
Homeschool Science Series workshops will take place in person at the Science Center of Iowa. During each session, students will meet with SCI staff to explore the topic while parents participate in a free concurrent session. In accordance with CDC guidelines, face masks will be required for all participants.
- Individual Class: $19 per child; $10 for SCI members
- Fall 2021 Series (all classes): $76 per child; $40 for SCI members
Registration includes workshop materials. Parents receive free workshop admission.
