The Science Center of Iowa (SCI) has been awarded a $15,000 Meta 2023 Data Center Community Action Grant from the Meta Altoona Data Center. The grant will be used to provide educator professional development and summer camp activities for the Bondurant-Farrar Community School District.

“This funding will allow SCI to continue developing training that provides educators with the tools and resources they need as they help prepare tomorrow’s workforce,” said Curt Simmons, SCI president and CEO.

The teacher professional development offered by SCI will help Bondurant-Farrar teachers integrate new computer science education standards into their classrooms. Summer Camps offered at Bondurant-Farrar will help students develop 21st century skills using materials, equipment, curriculum and staff provided by SCI.

The Meta Data Center Community Action Grant program provides funding for nonprofits and schools to support the long-term vitality of Altoona. Meta funds projects that help put the power of technology to use for community benefit, connect people online or off and improve STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) education.
