The Science Center of Iowa (SCI) has been awarded a $16,750 Meta Community Action Grant from the Meta Altoona Data Center. The grant will be used to help fund the collaboration with the Southeast Polk Home School Assistance Program (HSAP).

“This funding will allow SCI to continue helping parents and educators provide hands on technology education to students in the Southeast Polk HSAP,” said Curt Simmons, SCI president and CEO.

HSAP is an alternative K-12 educational program open to families who choose to homeschool their children. Program activities serving elementary, middle and high school students will provide support in coding, 3D design, robotics and augmented reality through materials, outreach, field trips and teacher support designed specifically for homeschool students.

The Meta Community Action Grant program was created to address needs in eastern Polk County and for improving STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) education.
