What is a BioBlitz?

A BioBlitz is a fun outdoor event where people work together to find and record as many plants, animals, and insects as they can in one place and in one day. Using the free iNaturalist app, participants take photos of what they discover and share them with scientists and nature experts. These observations help researchers learn more about the plants and animals living in our area while helping people connect with nature.

No experience? No problem! Whether you’re a curious beginner or a seasoned naturalist, you’ll receive guidance and training to get started.

Why Participate?

  • Explore nature and see the plants and animals that live in our parks
  • Learn how to use a science app to record what you find
  • Help scientists and park staff learn more about local wildlife
  • Have fun outside with family, friends, and other nature explorers

What to Expect

  • A short welcome and quick lesson on how to use the iNaturalist app
  • Guided walks with nature experts to help you find plants, animals, and insects
  • Time to explore on your own and record the species you discover
  • Live updates of what everyone finds during the day
  • A wrap-up at the end to share the coolest discoveries from the BioBlitz

What to Bring

  • Dress for the weather, including comfortable closed-toe shoes for walking outdoors
